Cloud computing is widely used among many Americans for both work and personal reasons, but there are still many people who don’t actually understand what it is or how often they might use it. In fact, a recent study by Citrix found that most Americans are confused by cloud computing. How many Americans know what cloud technology is? How many use it often? And how many have experienced cloud confusion?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, just 6% of respondents said they use cloud technology daily. Another 7% said they use cloud technology fairly often. 13% said they sometimes use it. And 7% said they rarely use it. 38% of respondents said they never use cloud technology, and 30% said they don’t know what it is.
Of those who definitely use cloud technology, only 5% said they use it for work reasons. 63% said they use it for personal reasons. And 31% said they use it for both work and personal reasons.
Once given the definition of cloud technology, 3% of those who previously said they didn’t understand it said that they do actually use it. Another 11% said they would definitely find it useful. 17% said it might be useful. 42% said they don’t think it would be of much use to them. And 27% were still undecided.
But it seems as though many still don’t understand the wide reach of cloud computing, and many who think they don’t use it actually do. 76% of overall respondents said they use social networking sites. 74% said they shop online. 66% said they bank online. 57% said they play online games. 41% said they use music and video storing and sharing sites. And 39% said they use photo storing and sharing sites. All of which are forms of cloud technology. Those who said they don’t use the cloud and those who didn’t think cloud technology sounded useful were only slightly less likely to say they use those online tools.
