When Instagram users learned about Facebook’s purchase of the photo sharing app last week, many took to other social media sites to express their disappointment. Some worried that Facebook would change the app, and others worried that Facebook was just becoming too powerful. But does everyone see this purchase as a negative?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 54% of respondents who’ve used Instagram said they currently have the Instagram app on their iPhone. 31% have the app on their android device. And 15% have used Instagram but don’t currently have the app installed.
Of those respondents who’ve used Instagram, 32% said they think the Facebook purchase will have a positive impact on Instagram. 11% think it will have a negative impact, and 16% think it will completely ruin Instagram. 32% said they don’t have an opinion one way or the other, and 11% did not know about the purchase at all.
Those who think the purchase will have a negative effect have a few different reasons for their worries. 68% are worried about privacy issues. 68% are also worried about Facebook making changes to Instagram. And 32% said they are worried about Facebook becoming too powerful.
When the news first hit last week, some Instagram users even commented that this purchase would potentially make them want to quit using Instagram. 6% said they have already deleted their accounts because of the Facebook purchase. Another 6% said they definitely plan to delete their account because of Facebook. 19% said they will potentially delete their account if Facebook makes changes they don’t like. But 54% of respondents said they definitely plan on keeping their Instagram accounts.
