As with many new Apple products, rumors have been circulating about a smaller version of the iPad tablet before the company has even confirmed any details about the product. The iPad mini would potentially be a smaller, less expensive version of the iPad. But how many consumers are interested in such a device? How do current tablet owners feel about the size of their devices? And would this new product convince any new customers to jump into the tablet market?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 15% of consumers said they currently own an iPad, and another 15% said they own a different tablet device. Male respondents and those making over $75,000 a year were slightly more likely to own both iPads and other types of tablets. Respondents under 34 were 10% more likely to own iPads, but not any more likely to own other types of tablets.
Of those consumers who own tablets, 56% said they are very satisfied with their devices. 36% said they are somewhat satisfied with their current tablet. 5% said they are somewhat unsatisfied, and just 3% said they are very unsatisfied with their current tablets. iPad owners were 15% more likely to say they are very satisfied with their current tablet.
Of those who don’t currently own a tablet, 19% said they definitely would consider buying one. 40% said they might possibly consider purchasing one at some point. 30% said they will probably not purchase a tablet. And 12% said they will definitely not consider buying a tablet.
85% of current tablet owners said they are happy with the size of their tablet. 14% said they wish their tablet was larger. And just 2% wish they had a smaller tablet device. 91% of iPad owners said they are satisfied with the size of their tablets, and just 2% said they wish they had a smaller version.
Only 8% of overall consumers said they would definitely be interested in a smaller version of the iPad. 30% said they would probably consider buying an iPad mini. 44% said they would probably not be interested in an iPad mini. And 18% said they would definitely not be interested in purchasing a small version of the iPad. Current iPad owners were 11% more likely to say they would be interested in purchasing an iPad mini.
