LinkedIn Survey: More Than One Third of Job Hunters Use Networking Site

Professional networking site LinkedIn recently reached 200 million users, and has also launched some new options for advertising on the site. Many use the site to look for employment or at least network for future opportunities. How many take advantage of the online job hunting and networking resources on sites like LinkedIn? And how effective might the new advertising options be?

Job Hunting

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 15% of respondents said that they are actively searching for a job. Another 22% said they are somewhat open to looking for new employment. And 63% said that they are not looking for a new job at all.

Overall, 26% of respondents said that they have used the internet as their primary form of job hunting. 24% said that they have looked for jobs online, in conjunction with other job-hunting methods. 19% said that they have just looked online for jobs once or twice. And 31% said that they have never looked for jobs online.

LinkedIn Users

25% of respondents said that they currently have a LinkedIn account. Another 7% said that they have had an account in the past. And 68% said they have never used LinkedIn. Of those who are currently looking for jobs, 34% said they have an account on LinkedIn.

Online Ads

Of those who have looked for jobs online, 30% said that they have found many job opportunities from online advertisements aside from classified ads like those on Craigslist. 34% said that they have applied for one or two jobs that they found through online ads. And 36% said that they have never applied for a job that they found through an online ad.

In general, just 8% said that they often click on ads contained on social media sites. 23% said they click on these ads sometimes. 35% said they rarely click on social media ads. And 33% said they never click ads contained on social media sites.
