Last week, Disney announced its acquisition of the Star Wars franchise. It also announced that it would continue the series with an upcoming Episode 7 film. How many Americans are interested in seeing a new Star Wars film? And what do people think about the partnership with Disney?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 35% of respondents said that they have seen all 6 current Star Wars movies. 10% said they have only seen Episodes 1-3. 6% said they have just seen Episodes 4-6. And 24% said they have seen at least one Star Wars movie. 26% have not seen any of the films.
Overall, 16% of respondents said they are happy about Disney’s acquisition of the Star Wars franchise. 11% said they are not happy about Disney’s involvement with Star Wars. 25% said they are still undecided. And 49% said they had no opinion about it one way or the other. 29% of those who have seen every Star Wars film said they are happy about the acquisition, and just 10% said they are unhappy about it.
Just 16% of overall respondents said they definitely plan to see any new Star Wars movies made by Disney. Another 33% said they will probably see new Disney-made Star Wars films. 34% said they probably won’t see any future Star Wars movies made by Disney. And 17% said they definitely won’t.
Similarly, 16% said they would definitely see any future Star Wars movies not created by Disney. 33% said they would probably see future Star Wars movies. 35% said they would probably not see any future Star Wars movies. And 16% said they definitely won’t. Of those who have never seen a Star Wars movie, just 1% said they would definitely see future movies if they weren’t made by Disney, and 3% said they would definitely see future movies if they were made by Disney.
