Airbnb Survey: Few Have Used Website, More Interested

Lodging rentals website Airbnb has been getting some added attention lately. With the rising cost of traveling, more and more people are looking for ways to save money. And online searches for lodging have been increasing for years. Now, even Warren Buffet has expressed interest in working with the company, which gives users the opportunity to connect with others and rent anything from homes to rooms to private islands. How many people have used Airbnb or similar services? And how many would be interested in doing so in the future?



In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 8% of respondents said they travel at least once per month. 15% said they travel every few months. 25% travel once or twice per year. 35% of respondents said they rarely travel. And 19% said they never travel.

66% of travelers said that they normally stay in hotels when they travel. 48% said they often stay with friends and family. 10% stay in bed and breakfasts. 7% stay at campgrounds or in RVs. And just 4% have used home rentals like those that can be found through Airbnb.

Lodging Cost

One of the main draws for services like Airbnb is the ability to find lodging options specific to your budget. And travel costs can be an issue for some people. Just 10% of respondents said they find the cost of lodging to be very reasonable. 54% said they find the cost of lodging to be somewhat reasonable. 30% think lodging costs are somewhat unreasonable. And 6% think lodging costs are very unreasonable.


So far, just 5% of respondents said they have tried using a home rentals service like Airbnb to find lodging deals. Another 10% said they would definitely be interested in doing so in the future. 44% said they would probably consider using a home rentals service like Airbnb. 33% said they would probably not be interested. And 9% said they would definitely not be interested.
