Blog Ads Survey: Other Online Ads Better Targeted to Reader Interests

Blogs have been popular for years, and advertising on blogs has been popular for almost as long. Now, there are even plenty of different blog advertising networks that can help businesses target their advertising to particular blog readers. How many blog readers pay attention to advertising? And how many feel that blog ads are targeted to their interests?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 10% of respondents said that they read blogs multiple times per day. 14% said they read blogs daily. 19% said they read blogs a few times per week. 6% read blogs about once per week. 8% read blogs a few times per month. 26% said they rarely ever read blogs. And 19% never read them.

Just 4% of blog readers said that they often click on ads. 26% said they sometimes click on blog ads. 34% said they rarely click on blog ads. And 33% of blog readers said they never click on ads. Just 4% of respondents said they don’t read any blogs that contain advertisements. While respondents under 25 were more likely to read blogs in general, they were less likely to click on blog ads.

Ad Targeting

One of the advantages of blog reading is that there are so many different blogs to choose from. So for businesses looking to target advertising, they should be able to easily find a small target market within a few specific blogs or a blog network. However, just 19% of blog readers said that the ads on the blogs they read are more relevant to their interests than other online ads. 29% said blog ads are less relevant to their interests than other online ads. And 52% said that blog ads are just as relevant to their interests as other online ads.
