Breakfast Survey: Eggs Named Favorite Breakfast Dish

September is All American Breakfast Month. Breakfast has long been considered one of the most important meals, as well as a favorite one due to the huge variety of food items people can enjoy. So what are some of people’s favorite breakfast items? And what brands do the best job of providing those food items?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 71% of respondents agreed that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. 40% also said that breakfast is their favorite meal. And 67% said that they often eat breakfast foods during other meals throughout the day.

Eating Habits

46% of respondents said they eat breakfast every day. Another 30% just eat breakfast a few times a week. 6% eat it about once per week. 8% eat it a few times per month. Another 8% said they rarely ever eat breakfast. And just 3% said they never do. The most common type of breakfast foods seem to be various egg dishes. 56% of respondents said they regularly eat eggs for breakfast. 43% regularly eat cereal. 40% eat bacon. 37% eat toast. 25% said they eat oatmeal on a regular basis. 23% eat pancakes. 17% eat waffles. And 11% regularly eat other types of breakfast foods, such as sausage, grits and yogurt.

Favorite Foods

But people's favorite foods seem to vary a bit from what they eat most often. Eggs were still named the favorite, with 40% ranking them above all the other breakfast foods listed. Bacon was ranked second, with toast third. Pancakes and waffles were ranked in the middle of the pack. Cereal was ranked close to the bottom. And 44% ranked oatmeal as their least favorite of the foods listed.As far as specific brands are concerned, Quaker, Kellogg's and Jimmy Dean were popular mentions for respondents’ favorite store-bought breakfast foods.
