Business Travelers Survey: Many Research Destinations Online

Business travelers around the country often spend more time in airports and hotels than those who travel for personal reasons. How do the habits of those business travelers differ from other travelers? How do they decide where to travel, and how do they connect with their destinations?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 52% of those who travel for business reasons at least once per year said they always make the decision of where to travel. 28% said they have some input on where they go for business trips. And 20% said they have no input on their destinations.

42% of business travelers said they often travel to the same destination or destinations multiple times. 54% said they sometimes return to the same destinations multiple times. And just 3% said they never return to the same destination more than once.


56% of business travelers said they always research their destination online before traveling. 36% said they sometimes do research online. And only 9% of business travelers said they never research their destinations online.

Of those who research online before traveling, 71% said they have visited official websites affiliated with their destinations. 63% have completed online searches or general research. 35% said they have connected with travel destinations via social media. And 17% said they have subscribed to newsletters dealing with their destinations. 14% said they have connected in other ways.

Travel Perks

Though many business travelers already connect with their destinations for informational purposes, even more might be likely to connect if there were added benefits involved. 79% of business travelers said they would be likely to connect with their destinations more if they were offered information about discounts or sales. 60% would be more likely to connect for exclusive coupons or other offers. 50% would connect more for extra amenities. And 24% would be interested in other perks. Only 11% of respondents said they already receive perks from connecting with their destinations.
