Console Gaming Survey: Most Use Gaming Consoles for Other Purposes

Once popular console video games are being somewhat overshadowed in recent years by different types of games, such as social games and mobile games. Though there are still popular games and consoles, such as Sony’s PlayStation 3, Microsoft’s Xbox 360, and Nintendo’s Wii, some people even use these consoles for purposes other than gaming. How many Americans still own gaming consoles, and how many actually use them for gaming?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 54% of respondents said that they currently own a dedicated gaming console such as an Xbox 360. Another 10% said that they don’t currently own a gaming console, but they have in the past. And 37% said they have never owned one.Of those who currently own consoles, 12% said they play non-online games on them every day. 23% said they play games on their console at least once per week. 22% said they play video games several times per month. 8% said they play games just about once or twice per month. 25% said they rarely play video games on their console. And 10% of console owners said they never actually use them to play games.

Other Uses

However, 30% of console owners said that they also use their gaming consoles to play DVDs or CDs. 26% said they use their consoles for video streaming. 13% said they use other apps on their gaming consoles. And 30% said they don’t use their consoles for anything other than gaming.

Other Games

And as far as other types of games, 31% of overall respondents said they play PC games. 26% said they play online or social games. 18% said they play mobile video games. And just 19% of overall respondents said they never play any video games, aside from console games.
