Country Music Survey: Radio Still the Most Popular Way to Listen

Today is known as International Country Music Day. While the genre has evolved and seen many artists come and go through the years, it remains one of the most popular types of music in many circles. So just how many people enjoy listening to country music on a regular basis? Who are their favorite artists? And what methods do they use most often to enjoy this type of music?

Country Music Listeners

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 49% of respondents said they have a generally positive opinion of country music. Just 21% said they don’t like country music. And 31% are neutral about it. Overall, just 5% of respondents said that country is the only type of music they ever listen to. 14% said they listen to country most of the time. 20% listen to it about half the time. 39% said they rarely ever listen to country music. And 22% never do.

Listening Habits

Of those who listen to country music at least on occasion, 70% do so by listening to the radio, making it the most popular way for people to listen to that particular genre. 20% listen to country on online streaming services. Another 20% use CDs. 15% use iTunes or other digital formats. 5% listen to country music at concerts or other live events. 3% listen to it on vinyl. And 7% listen to it using other methods, like watching music channels on TV.

Favorite Artists

There are, of course, so many different country artists for people to choose from. There are plenty of classic country artists along with some newer names. The most popular country artists mentioned by respondents include Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Taylor Swift.
