Cyber Monday Survey: Online Shopping Increased Over Past Year

Last week, Americans came out in force to get deals on holiday gifts and other items for Black Friday. But today, others will take to their computers to try and get similar deals on items while shopping online. Cyber Monday has been recognized for years, but may not yet have quite as big a name as Black Friday. How many plan to take part in it this year?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 11% of respondents said that they plan to buy all of their holiday gifts online this year. 24% said they plan to buy most of their gifts online. 13% plan to do about half of their gift shopping online. 19% said they plan to buy just a few gifts online this year. 20% don’t plan to buy any gifts online. And 14% said they don’t plan to buy any gifts at all. Those numbers have increased a bit since a November 2012 survey, when 11% said they planned to buy all of their gifts online, and just 18% planned to buy most of them online.

More specifically, 19% of respondents who plan to do at least a little online shopping this year said they definitely plan to take advantage of Cyber Monday deals. 58% said they will probably shop on Cyber Monday. 19% probably won’t shop on Cyber Monday. And just 4% said they definitely won’t.

In the November 2012 survey, just 13% said they definitely planned to shop on Cyber Monday. 52% said they probably would shop on Cyber Monday. 31% said they probably wouldn’t. And 4% said they definitely wouldn’t.

Online Advertising

Online stores running Cyber Monday deals have been advertising those deals in a variety of ways to gain shoppers’ attention. 17% of online shoppers said that online ads have had a large impact on their online gift shopping decisions. 49% said that advertising has somewhat impacted their online shopping decisions. And 34% said that advertising hasn’t impacted their purchases at all.
