Tomorrow is Middle Name Pride Day. A lot of people have middle names, but not everyone uses them or really likes them. So how many people actually use their middle names regularly? What are the most popular names for both men and women? And how many people like their middle names?

Middle Names

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 85% of respondents said they have a middle name. 5% said they actually have multiple middle names. And 10% don’t have one. Of those who have at least one middle name, 20% said they never actually use them when writing or speaking their names. 48% said they rarely ever use their middle names. 18% use them about half the time. 8% use them most of the time. And 6% always do.

Popular Names

Though middle names vary, there are some popular choices for both men and women. For men, the most popular names mentioned by respondents include John, Richard, Lee, Alan, James and William. For women, the most popular middle names include Marie, Ann, Lynn, Anne, Jean, Beth, Elizabeth, Michelle and Nicole.

Name Opinions

Overall, 59% of respondents said they at least somewhat like their middle names. Just 7% said they dislike their middle names. And 35% are neutral about them. Not surprisingly, those who like their middle names are more likely to actually use them regularly.
