Museums Survey: Visitors Prefer Art and Science Museums

Today is National Museum Day, a day aimed at calling attention to all of the country’s great museums. There are several different types of museums in cities throughout the country that people can enjoy today and throughout the rest of the year. So how often do people take advantage of these museums? And which ones are their favorites to visit?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, just 2% of respondents said they go to museums at least once per month. 14% said they visit a few times per year. 15% go to museums about once per year. 12% go every few years. 33% said they rarely ever go to museums. And 25% never do.

Museum Importance

Museums can be incredibly helpful for teaching kids, which is why they’re so often a destination for school field trips and weekend family getaways. But for adults, they can also be great teachers or just interesting cultural experiences. 83% of respondents think that it’s important for kids to visit museums. And 78% think that it is also important for adults to visit museums at least semi-regularly.

Visitors’ Favorites

In general, art and science museums seem to be people’s favorites to visit. 31% rated science museums as their favorites. And 30% rated art museums as their favorites. Visitors rated history and cultural museums near the middle of the pack. And they rated sports centered museums and those based on specific industries as their least favorites.
