Restaurant Reservations Survey: Customers Open to Online Options

Travel deals site Priceline announced last week that it plans to purchase online restaurant reservations platform OpenTable. Online reservations have become somewhat more common over the past several years, but many restaurants still do not offer it as an option for customers. Just how popular have online reservations become? And how many even utilize restaurant reservations in general?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 3% of respondents said they go out to eat at restaurants every day. 16% said they go to restaurants a few times per week. 18% go about once per week. 21% go a few times per month. 18% go just about once per month. 21% said they rarely go out to eat at restaurants. And just 5% said they never do.

In general, just 2% of respondents said they always make reservations when they go out to eat at restaurants. 8% said they make restaurant reservations most of the time. 10% said they do so about half the time. 45% said they rarely make restaurant reservations. And 35% said they never make restaurant reservations.

Online Reservations

More specifically, just 10% of respondents who have made restaurant reservations said they have made reservations online many times. 38% said they’ve made online restaurant reservations once or twice. And 53% said they’ve never made online reservations.22% of respondents said they would definitely make restaurant reservations online more often if more restaurants or online services offered it as an option. 52% said they would probably make more restaurant reservations online if it was a more common option. 23% said they probably wouldn’t make more restaurant reservations online. And just 2% said they definitely would not.
