Online dating has been steadily growing in popularity for years, but now a new player is emerging – mobile dating apps. Though still not to the level of sites like Match.com, dating apps have become fairly common, particularly for young people. So how many people have used dating apps? And how do those users compare to regular online dating users?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 21% of overall respondents said they have tried online dating. Another 7% said they are considering using online dating. And 73% have never tried it.
Of those who have tried online dating, 19% said they have been very satisfied with the experience. 30% said they’ve been somewhat satisfied. 26% said they have been somewhat unsatisfied with online dating. And 25% have been very unsatisfied with it.
Mobile dating apps still clearly are not as popular as those online dating sites though. Just 7% of respondents said they’ve used dating apps. Another 6% said they are considering using them. And 87% said they’ve never used mobile dating apps. Of those who have used mobile dating apps, 73% have also used more traditional dating sites.
Those who have tried online dating apps had similar satisfaction rates to online dating users. 19% said they’ve been very satisfied with dating apps. 31% said they’ve been somewhat satisfied. 23% have been somewhat unsatisfied. And 27% have been very unsatisfied with mobile dating apps.
In general, 28% of respondents said they use mobile apps often. 17% said they never use them. And 24% don’t have a mobile device that uses apps. So of those who ever even use mobile apps, 11% have tried using dating apps.
