This week, Americans will celebrate Easter. Though traditionally a religious celebration, some families and individuals celebrate the holiday in different ways. There are also plenty of different products, especially candy and food items, aimed specifically at Easter shoppers. So how many people are likely to celebrate Easter this year? And how many are likely to make purchases because of the holiday?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 58% of respondents said that they plan to have a small family dinner for Easter this year, making it the most popular way for people to celebrate. 35% said they are likely to attend church or another type of religious celebration. 27% decorate their homes in honor of the holiday. And 26% are likely to either host or attend a party.
Overall, 46% said that they are likely to make purchases related to Easter this year. Candy is the most popular type of item that people plan on buying; 78% said they are likely to buy Easter candy this year. 64% plan to buy other types of food items. 33% plan on buying gifts for people. 31% are likely to buy decorations. 17% are likely to purchase party supplies. And 4% plan on buying other types of items for Easter, such as baskets, cards and clothing. Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree, Walgreens and Family Dollar are the top stores for Easter purchases.
Since candy is the most popular type of Easter purchase, there are many different varieties for people to choose from. Overall, 49% of respondents said they have a positive opinion of Easter candy. Just 12% don’t like it. And 39% are neutral. The most popular types of Easter candy mentioned by respondents include Cadbury Eggs, chocolate bunnies, Jelly Beans, Peeps and Reese’s Eggs.
