eBay Survey: Sales May Be Slowly Decreasing

Ecommerce giant eBay has seemingly fallen behind recently. Though it started out as one of the biggest names in online shopping, other major companies like Amazon have taken over a good portion of its market share. It’s had such an impact that the company is even working on changing its image and its strategy. So how many currently shop on eBay compared to past shoppers? And how many are likely to shop there in the future?

eBay Shoppers

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 42% of respondents said that they’ve bought things on eBay many times in the past. 27% have bought things once or twice. And 32% never have. More recently, just 35% of those who have ever bought items on eBay said that they’ve made multiple purchases on the site within the last year. And 37% have made one or two purchases within the past year.

eBay Sellers

Another big part of eBay’s appeal is that it allows almost anyone to sell a variety of different items on the platform. Overall, 18% of respondents said that they’ve sold things on eBay many times in the past. And another 16% have sold things once or twice. Of those respondents, 24% have sold multiple items within the past year. 27% have sold one or two items in that time period. And 49% haven’t sold anything in the past year.

Future Users

Looking forward, 45% of overall respondents said that they are likely to purchase items on eBay within the next year. And 24% said they are likely to sell items on the site within the next year. Those who have bought and sold things recently were more likely to say that they’ll continue using the platform in the future.
