Facebook is in the process of testing a new feature that would let users purchase products from businesses directly on the site. Online shopping is already incredibly popular. And consumers use Facebook to connect with many of their favorite businesses anyway. But would shoppers be interested in the new Facebook Buy button?
Potential Users
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 84% of respondents said they currently have a Facebook account. So the majority of people would at least have access to a Facebook shopping platform. But how many really shop online? 45% of overall respondents said they shop online often. 38% said they sometimes shop online. 12% said they rarely shop online. And just 7% said they never do.
Facebook Business
For those who use Facebook, the platform is already a place to connect with their favorite brands and businesses. 29% said they follow many different businesses on Facebook. 34% said they follow just one or two. And 38% of Facebook users said they don’t connect with any businesses on the site.
But perhaps more importantly, 7% of respondents said that they have bought many different products simply because they saw the products on Facebook. 22% said they’ve bought just one or two products because they saw the products on Facebook. And 71% said they’ve never bought a product just because they saw it on Facebook.
Facebook Buy
More specifically to the new program, just 7% of respondents said they would definitely consider buying products directly on Facebook. 33% said they would probably consider buying products through a program like Facebook Buy. 40% said they would probably not take advantage of the program. And 23% said they would definitely not.
