Facebook Legacy Survey: Few Taking Advantage of New Option

Have you ever wondered what might happen to your Facebook account after you die? Well, the social media giant just added a new feature that allows users to add a “legacy contact,” a friend or family member who can take over the account in case of the user’s death. Do Facebook users think this is a good idea? And how many of them have taken advantage of the feature so far?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 85% of respondents said they currently have a Facebook account. However, just 29% of those users said they would like to have the option to choose a friend or family member to manage their account in case of death. 41% said they would not like to have that Facebook legacy contact option. And the remaining 30% were undecided.

Different Options

More specifically, 35% of respondents said they would like their Facebook account to be deleted after their death. 23% said they would like their Facebook account to be saved as a memorial page. 15% would like their page to stay just how it is. 21% are unsure. And 6% just have no opinion at all.

Legacy Contact

So far, just 8% of respondents said they have selected a legacy contact to carry out their wishes for their Facebook account once they’ve died. 40% said they haven’t yet chosen their legacy contact. And 51% were not even aware that it was an option.
