Facebook Paper Survey: Not Much Early Awareness for New App

Facebook Paper is a new app out of Facebook Creative Labs. It is a standalone mobile app that delivers news from the user’s Facebook news feed and other high profile news sites. It includes different topics and areas of interest that users can follow and post to. How many people are interested in Facebook Paper? And how many have already signed up?

Mobile Users

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 19% of respondents said that they often read news on mobile devices. 29% sometimes read mobile news. 17% said they rarely read news on mobile. 19% said they never read news on mobile. And 17% don’t currently have a mobile device with that ability.

But Facebook Paper is sort of a mix of news and social. 36% of mobile users said they often use social media on mobile devices. 27% sometimes use mobile social apps. 13% said they rarely use social media on mobile devices. And 24% said they never do.

Facebook Paper

Facebook Paper is a very new app still, so it hasn’t had much time to gain users and awareness. Just 4% of mobile users said they have downloaded Facebook Paper already. Another 10% said they know what it is. 11% said they have heard of Facebook Paper but don’t exactly know what it is. And 76% of mobile users said they have never even heard of Facebook Paper.

Potential Interest

Upon learning a bit about the app, just 8% of mobile users said they would definitely be interested in using Facebook Paper. 34% said they would probably be interested in Facebook Paper. 32% said they probably would not be interested. And 25% said they are definitely not interested. But currently the app is only available for iPhone, so not all of these mobile users will even be able to download it at this point.
