Facebook Shopping Survey: Few Have Used Mobile Apps to Shop

Online and mobile shopping are becoming much more common with everyday consumers. Now, social networking giant Facebook is looking into joining the mobile shopping market with an option that would allow users to store their payment information to easily make purchases with Facebook’s partner apps. How many users might be interested in this Facebook shopping feature? And how many already use their mobile devices to shop?

Online Shopping

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 4% of respondents said that they shop online every day. 10% said they shop online a few times per week. 13% shop online about once per week. 26% do so a few times per month. 20% said it’s about once per month. 19% said they rarely shop online. And just 6% of respondents said that they never shop online.

Mobile Shopping

Online shopping has been around for years, but mobile shopping is a newer concept so fewer consumers have taken advantage of it at this point. Just 3% of respondents said they use their mobile device to shop every day. 3% said they shop on mobile devices a few times per week. 5% do so about once per week. 7% do so a few times per month. Another 7% shop via mobile about once per month. 20% said they rarely shop using their mobile devices. And 55% said they never shop using mobile devices.

Of those who have shopped using mobile devices, 70% said they have done so using a mobile browser. 35% have shopped using mobile shopping apps. 16% have used social media to shop via mobile devices. And 7% of mobile users have shopped in other ways.

Facebook Users

In Facebook’s case, the site would simply give its users the opportunity to store payment information to make shopping with Facebook’s partner apps easier. But how many Facebook users are interested in mobile shopping? In general, 84% of respondents said they currently have a Facebook account. Facebook users were just 3% more likely to have used mobile shopping methods.
