Facebook Slingshot Survey: Few Interested in New Snapchat Competitor

After pulling its Poke app from app stores earlier this month, Facebook is now working on releasing a new type of Snapchat competitor called Facebook Slingshot. The app would allow users to send media messages to contacts who could view them only once. Are people interested in such an app from Facebook?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 10% of respondents said they currently use Snapchat. Another 7% said they have used it in the past. And 83% of respondents said they have never used Snapchat, which is arguably the most prominent app similar to Slingshot currently in the marketplace.


80% of overall respondents said they currently use Facebook. Another 11% said they have used Facebook in the past. And 10% said they have never used Facebook. But Facebook has faced some criticism over the years, particularly in regard to privacy issues. That’s why some people, particularly young people, have switched over to apps like Snapchat instead.

30% of current Facebook users said they are very concerned about privacy. 49% said they are somewhat concerned about privacy on Facebook. 18% said they are not very concerned. And just 3% of Facebook users are not concerned about privacy at all.


10% of overall respondents said they would definitely be interested in a Facebook created app that would allow them to send photos and videos to their contacts that could only be viewed once. 24% said they would probably be interested in such an app. 45% said they would probably not be interested in using Facebook Slingshot. And 22% said they definitely would not be interested
