Facebook Wi-Fi Survey: More Than Half Have Used Internet at Local Businesses

Facebook is reportedly testing a new wi-fi service for local businesses that would allow them to offer free wi-fi to customers who check in at the business’s location on Facebook. How many Facebook users might be interested in such an option? And how many already use Facebook to check in at local businesses?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 85% of respondents said they currently have a Facebook account. Just 9% of those Facebook users said they often check in at local businesses on the site. 25% said they sometimes check in at local businesses. 22% said they rarely check in on Facebook. And 44% never do.

Another thing Facebook might be trying to accomplish with the new wi-fi program is to encourage more users to “like” business pages on Facebook. 36% of users said they already like many business pages on Facebook. 43% said they like just one or two business pages. And 21% don’t like any business pages.

So how many already use wi-fi when it is available at local businesses? 9% of Facebook users said they often go to local businesses to use their free wi-fi or internet services. 21% said they sometimes use wi-fi at local businesses. 28% said they rarely use business wi-fi. And 42% said they never do.

More specifically, 25% of those who have used wi-fi at local businesses said they would definitely check in at local businesses on the site in order to get access to their wireless network. 39% said they would probably check in at businesses to get wi-fi access. 30% said they probably wouldn’t. And just 5% said they definitely wouldn’t.
