Fast Charging Phones Survey: Most Consumers Interested in New Options

At the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show last week, a startup called Storedot showed off a phone charger that could get smartphones to full power about 100 times faster than current phone chargers. Battery life has been an issue for many smartphone users. And it seems to be getting continuously more difficult as phones get bigger and more sophisticated. Though the chargers aren’t actually available yet, will there be a strong market for them someday?

Battery Life

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 58% of respondents said they currently own a smartphone. And another 19% own another type of cell phone. Of those respondents, 57% said they are satisfied with their phone’s battery life. And just 31% were unsatisfied.

Charging Inconvenience

But battery life is just part of the issue. Even if batteries can last for a fair amount of time, they have to spend time charging. And that’s the problem that Storedot aims to solve with its new charging system. However, 59% said they are already satisfied with the length of time their current phone charger takes. And 43% said they only have to charge their phones about once per day. 31% charge their phones every couple of days. And just 18% have to charge their phones multiple times per day.

But even though many people are already fairly satisfied with their phone chargers, a faster system still seems to be of interest. 62% of cell phone owners said they would be likely to purchase a charger that could charge phones to full power in just minutes. And just 18% said they would be unlikely to purchase such a charger.
