For this week’s Feature Friday, we chose our Research Manager Brianna Boyer. Brianna has been with AYTM since the fall of 2013. With a passion for sports, British panel shows and Minesweeper, Brianna describes herself as logical, curious and passionate.
In her spare time she has been known to solve LSAT analytical and logical reasoning practice problems for fun. Learn more about Brianna below.
Where are you from?
Northern California – I was born in the central valley, then split time between San Jose where I went to school, and the Sierra Nevada foothills east of Sacramento. So musically speaking, “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” and “Folsom Prison Blues”.
What was your favorite subject in school?
I enjoyed math class, no matter the specific topic. The structure of mathematics has always been something that has resonated with me. Because of that I wanted to love sciences with a strong math element, like chemistry and physics, but those were definitely more of a love-hate relationship.
Who inspires you and why?
My aunt – she is strong, intelligent, caring, independent, wise, and so open and honest. She knows what is important to her and makes it a priority, seemingly without the feel of sacrifice. As a kid she was the cool aunt who had a Happy Meal specially delivered for me at her wedding and now she is the cool aunt whose work-life balance I dream of achieving.
What do you like about working for AYTM?
Like Forrest said, life (at AYTM) is “like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get”. Every day presents a new topic to study or a new puzzle to solve. It keeps you on your toes.
What are you passionate about?
Sports! As my husband likes to tell people, when we first moved in together my only ask was that I had TV and a place to sit and watch sports – hockey, baseball, football, volleyball, soccer, you name it. A dream of mine is to become a season ticket holder for a local hockey team, no matter wherever I live. I had no idea what hockey was until my dad took me to a game on my 7th birthday and I’ve been hooked ever since. I recommend everyone attend at least one live hockey game.
Favorite pastime or hobby?
Definitely Minesweeper. I would guess that at a minimum I play 25 games of Minesweeper every day. As crazy as it sounds to some, I find it incredibly relaxing and could easily – and have on several occasions – play for hours at a time. Another more unintentional hobby is annoying my two dogs by taking pictures of them constantly then annoying my husband by sending him every picture I take of them, even if he is in the same room.
What is a special skill or interesting fact about you?
A semi-interesting fact is that I attended two kindergartens about 150 miles apart at the same time for a couple months. I was the mysterious 5-year-old who would be in class one week, gone the next, then back for another. More recently in my life than that, I have been known to solve LSAT analytical and logical reasoning practice problems in my spare time for fun.
