Samsung is preparing to launch its first “smart watch” product, the Galaxy Gear. Rumors have already been circulating about smart watches, which are watches that would be able to perform many of the same functions as smart phones, from high profile companies such as Apple and Google. But now that there is an official player in the smart watch market, are more consumers interested in purchasing?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 18% of respondents said that they would definitely be interested in owning a smart watch. Another 22% said they are somewhat interested. 33% said they are not very interested in owning a smart watch. And 28% said they are not interested at all.
Real interest in such a product may have increased in just a few short months, since there is now an official product to be released. In a July 2013 survey, just 14% said they would definitely be interested in owning a smart watch. 27% said they would be somewhat interested. 29% said they were not really interested. And 31% said they were not interested at all.
Of those who are at least somewhat interested in smart watches, just 11% said they definitely plan to buy Samsung’s Galaxy Gear when it is released. 48% said they would probably buy it. 36% said they probably wouldn’t want to buy Samsung’s first smart watch. And just 4% said they definitely aren’t interested in the Galaxy Gear smart watch.
With potential competitors such as Google and Apple, Samsung might have its work cut out for it in the smart watch market. So how do consumers’ opinions of Samsung stack up with those of other companies? 35% of respondents said they have a very positive opinion of the Samsung brand. 42% described their opinion as somewhat positive. 5% described their opinion as somewhat negative. And just 2% said they have a very negative opinion of Samsung. 17% said they have no opinion or have never owned any Samsung products.
In the July 2013 survey, 26% said they have a very positive opinion of Apple. 37% had a somewhat positive opinion of Apple. 7% described their opinion as somewhat negative. And 5% described it as very negative. 25% had no opinion.
