GM Recalls Survey: Recalls More Prominent This Year

The latest wave of recalls from General Motors has some drivers worried about the safety of their vehicles. But are these recalls impacting any sales numbers yet? What do consumers think when they hear about an auto recall and what do they think when a company issues various recalls within the same year?

Auto Owners

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 70% of respondents said they currently own or lease a vehicle. 9% said they don’t currently own a vehicle but they have in the past. And 22% said they have never owned or leased a vehicle.

Vehicle Recalls

11% of vehicle owners said they have had a vehicle recalled multiple times. Another 19% said they have had a vehicle recalled once. And 70% of vehicle owners said they have never experienced a recall. Of those who have experienced a vehicle recall, 38% have done so within the last year.

Consumer Opinions

In general, 17% of respondents said that recalls have a big negative impact on their opinion of automotive companies. 44% said that recalls somewhat impact their opinion of the auto companies that issue them. 30% said recalls don’t really impact their opinions. And 10% said their opinions aren’t changed at all.

More specifically, 18% said the recent wave of GM recalls have had a large negative impact on their opinion of the automotive giant. 40% said that the recent recalls have somewhat impacted their opinion of GM. 29% said their opinion of GM hasn’t been impacted. And 13% said they weren’t aware of any recent GM recalls.
