Google is releasing its Google Glass headgear device to the general public for one day only this week. The company is selling the wearable computer, which until this point has only been available to select “explorers,” for $1,500. How many people plan to take advantage of the offer from Google? And what do they think about the product and its price tag?
Google Glass Sale
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, just 3% said they definitely plan to purchase Google Glass when it goes on sale this Tuesday. 10% said they would probably consider purchasing it. 26% said they will probably not purchase Google Glass when it is released this week. And 34% definitely do not plan to purchase Google Glass this week.
The remaining 27% said they do not know what Google Glass is. But at least awareness for the product has increased in recent months, even if most do not plan to purchase the device right away. In an August 2013 survey, 56% of respondents still had not even heard of Google Glass.
Google Glass Buyers
Of those not planning to buy Google Glass this week, just 3% said they would definitely like to purchase it at some point in the future. 21% said they would probably be interested in purchasing Google Glass at some point. 45% said they would probably not ever be interested in buying Google Glass. And 31% definitely do not ever plan to purchase Google Glass.
In the August 2013 survey, 12% of respondents said they would definitely be interested in buying Google Glass at some point. 32% said they would probably be interested in Google Glass. 37% said they would probably not be interested. And 20% were definitely not interested.
Google Glass Price
One of the factors that could potentially deter some buyers this week is the price. Just 7% of overall respondents said they think $1,500 is a reasonable price for Google Glass. 62% said they do not think it is a reasonable price. And 32% were undecided. Even of those who plan to buy Google Glass this week, 50% said they think the price is unreasonable.
