Healthcare Survey: Americans Still Split Over Current Law

The Affordable Care Act, popularly known as Obamacare or the Healthcare Reform Bill, is set to start making some more changes to the US healthcare system in the coming months. And Americans are split over whether that is a good or bad thing. Have opinions about the law changed at all since it was passed and later upheld by the Supreme Court?

Healthcare Opinions

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 31% of overall respondents said they think the Affordable Care Act is definitely a positive step for America. 34% said they do not think it is a positive step. And 35% are undecided. In a July 2012 Survey, 34% of respondents thought the Affordable Care Act was a positive step for America. 37% said they thought it was a negative step. And 31% were undecided.

As far as the future of the act, 27% of respondents said they think the whole thing should be repealed. Another 19% said they think that parts of it should be repealed. And 22% said they don’t think any of it should be repealed. 33% were undecided.

Political Affiliations

Just as it was in the earlier survey, Americans seem to be split along party lines when it comes to the current healthcare issue. Just 10% of those who described themselves as republicans said they feel the Affordable Care Act is a positive step, and 66% said they think it is a negative step. 51% said they think the entire act should be repealed, and just 1% said they don’t think any of it should be repealed.

Of those who described themselves as Democrats, 54% said they think the Affordable Care act is a positive step, and just 13% think it is a negative step. 13% said they think the entire Act should be repealed, and 41% said they don’t think any of it should be repealed. Those with other political affiliations or who are not political were slightly more likely than the panel as a whole to think the act is not a positive step and to think at least some of it should be repealed.

US Healthcare System

But though Americans seem to be split about what should be done in regards to the current law, many agree that at least some changes need to be made. Just 5% of overall respondents said they feel the current US healthcare system is very good. 36% described it as good. 40% described it as bad. And 20% described it as very bad.
