As Americans get ready for the start of a new year, many of them will consider the habits that contribute to their overall health, such as diet and exercise, and potentially look to make some changes. Whether they choose to sign up for gyms or official diet plans, or just decide to change some of their daily routine, the new year is a popular time for people to try and work on their healthy habits. So how many people currently consider themselves to have good habits? And how many would like to improve?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 84% of respondents agreed that they consider health to be important. However, just 52% said they have a diet that’s at least generally healthy. And 47% said they exercise at least somewhat regularly. Looking forward, 76% said that they would like to improve their diet and exercise habits.
Currently, just 6% say they are using an official diet plan. 33% said they have used at least one in the past. And 61% said they have never used an official diet plan. Of those who are currently using diet plans, the most popular plans include Weight Watchers, South Beach, Atkins, Slimfast, Nutrisystem and various low carb diets. And of those who are not currently using an official diet plan, 22% said that they are likely to use one in 2016.
When it comes to exercise, 16% said that they currently belong to a gym or similar facility. Planet Fitness was named as the most popular gym among respondents. Others include the YMCA, Gold Gym and Healthsource. Of those who don’t currently belong to a gym or similar facility, 16% said they are likely to join one in 2016.
