Herman Cain Survey: Longshot Candidate Becomes Frontrunner

The Republican Presidential Primary race is heating up, and one unlikely candidate has caught the eye of many Americans. Herman Cain, the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, has become one of the frontrunners in this election season. So what has drawn all these people to Herman Cain all of a sudden? And does he have what it takes to make it all the way to the White House?

The Primary Race

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 22% of respondents are already paying a lot of attention to the Republican Presidential Primary, and another 35.8% are starting to pay some attention. Only 33% plan to vote in the primary, however.

Cain’s Rising Popularity

Cain was just a long-shot candidate a few weeks ago, but now 28% of those who plan to vote in the primary say that he’s their top choice. His top competitor, Mitt Romney, only had 12.9% of respondents on his side. There’s still time for change though, as about 39.4% are still undecided.

There are many different reasons for Cain’s rising popularity. 64.9% of respondents were impressed by his business experience. 62.2% agree with his stance on the issues. 59.5% like the fact that he’s not a longtime politician. And 48.6% like his energy and attitude.

Cain has also gained a lot of attention for his “9-9-9” tax plan, which includes a 9% personal income tax, 9% corporate tax, and 9% national sales tax, in lieu of the current tax code. Out of all the survey respondents, 55.3% had not heard of this plan. 20.8% have heard of it, but do not agree with it. 13.5% haven’t decided what they think of it yet. And 10.5% think it’s a good idea. However a much higher percentage of Cain supporters, 54.1%, think it’s a good idea.

Cain’s popularity has shot way up in the last few weeks, but there is still a lot of time before the primary election. Will he remain at the top, or will one of his many competitors edge him out between now and then?
