Holiday Entertaining Survey: Food, Gift Exchanges Most Popular at Parties

It’s the holiday season, which means gift buying, decorating, and all kinds of holiday parties. How many people will either host or attend parties or gatherings during this holiday season? And what are the most popular activities during such events?

Holiday Parties

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 31% of respondents said that they normally attend multiple holiday gatherings each year. Another 20% said they usually attend one gathering each holiday season. 28% said they attend holiday parties some years. And 21% said they never attend holiday parties.

Holiday Entertaining

Fewer respondents, 17%, said they usually host multiple holiday gatherings each year. Another 17% said they usually host one holiday party per year. 34% said they host holiday parties some years. And 32% of those who attend parties said that they never host them.

Preferred Activities

Food is obviously a main part of many of these parties. 83% of those who host holiday parties said they make at least some of the food themselves. 33% said that their guests bring food. 29% buy already-prepared dishes. Just 4% hire a caterer for holiday parties. And 3% supply food in other ways.

Other than food, there are lots of other popular activities for holiday parties. 68% of those who attend holiday parties said they normally take part in some kind of gift exchange. 37% play games at their holiday parties. 33% watch movies. And 12% take part in other activities, such as music and readings.
