Hologram Performances Survey: Americans Open to Seeing More Holograms

This weekend at the Billboard Music Awards, a hologram performance of Michael Jackson caught the attention of many viewers. Hologram technology has improved drastically in recent years, but some think the world still isn’t ready for hologram performances like the one at this weekend’s show. What did viewers think of the performance? And would people want to see more like it in the future?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 13% of respondents said they saw the Michael Jackson hologram performance on the Billboard Music Awards this weekend. Another 10% said they watched the performance online after the show. 37% said they did not see the performance themselves, but did hear about it from others. And 40% were not aware of the hologram performance this weekend.Of those who saw the Michael Jackson hologram performance this weekend, 66% liked it. 17% did not like it. And 16% were neutral or had no opinion about the hologram performance this weekend.

The technology behind hologram performances like the one at the Billboard Music Awards is still evolving. 27% of overall respondents said they definitely expect to see more hologram technology used in awards shows and live performances in the coming years. 51% said they think hologram technology will probably become more prominent in the coming years. 12% think it probably won’t. And 11% think it definitely won’t become more prominent.

Viewer Opinions

But just because they think it will become more prominent doesn’t necessarily mean they want it to. Just 19% of overall respondents said they definitely would like to see more hologram performances in the future. 36% said they would probably like to see more hologram performances. 30% said they probably wouldn’t like to see more hologram performances. And 16% said they definitely wouldn’t. Those who saw the Michael Jackson performance this weekend were 16% more likely to be interested in seeing more such performances in the future.
