Instagram Ads Survey: Not Many Impacted by Advertising Yet

Instagram just launched its highly anticipated advertising program. People have expected ads to begin popping up on the Facebook-owned photo sharing app for some time. But now that they can actually see the ads and how they fit in with the rest of the app’s content, how do they think it will impact the user experience?

Instagram Ads

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 25% of respondents said they currently have an Instagram account. 16% of users said they have noticed many ads in their Instagram feeds. 30% said they have just seen one or two ads on Instagram so far. And 54% of users said they haven’t come across any Instagram ads yet.

User Experience

But what do these users think about the advertising program in general? 17% said that having an advertising program actually has a positive impact on their opinion of Instagram. 34% said that advertising impacts their opinion of Instagram negatively. And 49% said it doesn’t change their opinion at all.

29% of users said they will definitely continue using Instagram now that the app contains advertisements. 54% said they probably will. 16% said they probably won’t use the app anymore. And just 1% said they definitely won’t. In a September 2013 survey, 34% of respondents said they might not use the app anymore if it started including advertisements, so it seems that some users have changed their tune now that it has become a reality.

Former Users

But it is possible that the current numbers are skewed by people who have already quit using Instagram due to the ads. However, less than 1% of those who don’t have an Instagram account said that they stopped using it because of advertisements. 3% stopped using the app for other reasons. And 96% said they have never used Instagram.
