Mobile photo sharing app Instagram just unveiled a new video sharing feature. Now the Facebook owned app is in direct competition with Twitter’s Vine, which has only been out for a less than a year. Will people be interested in sharing videos on Instagram?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 16% of respondents said they currently use Instagram, but only 5% use Vine. Their parent companies, Facebook and Twitter, had 79% and 40% of respondents respectively. And just 13% said they don’t use any of those social platforms. Nearly all of those who use Instagram also said they use Facebook, but they were also much more likely to use Twitter and somewhat more likely to use Vine.
In general, just 14% of respondents said they always use those social platforms on their mobile devices. 13% said they use their mobile devices most of the time. 12% said they use them about half the time. 17% said they rarely use social platforms on their mobile devices. And 44% said they never do.
An even smaller amount, 8%, said that they create and share videos on social media. Another 7% said that they would definitely be interested in doing so. 18% said they are somewhat interested in sharing videos on social media. 32% said they are not really interested. And 36% said they are not at all interested in sharing videos on social platforms.
More specifically, just 8% of overall respondents said that they would definitely be interested in an Instagram video feature. 20% said they would probably be interested. 35% said they would probably not be interested. And 38% said they would definitely not be interested. Of those who already use Instagram, 30% said they would definitely be interested in a video feature, and 37% said they would probably be interested. Of those who use Vine, 42% said they would definitely be interested in Instagram Video.
