Instagram Web Profiles Survey: Majority of Cell Phone Owners Use Camera Feature

Photo sharing service Instagram just released the long awaited web-based profiles for its users. Now people can view a stream of Instagram photos in their web browsers rather than just on their smartphones. However, the service is sticking with its mobile roots and only allowing users to upload photos taken with their phones. How do Instagram users feel about the new web profiles, and how many people might be open to using the photo sharing service in the future?

Smartphone Users

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 12% of overall respondents said that they own an iPhone. 30% said they own an Android phone. 7% said they own a different kind of smartphone. 49% said they don’t own a smartphone. And 4% said they don’t own a cell phone at all.

30% of cell phone users in general said that they often take photos with their phones. Another 31% said that they sometimes take cell phone photos. 17% said that they rarely take cell phone photos. 10% said they never take photos with their phones. And 13% said they don’t have a camera on their cell phone.

Instagram Users

Just 15% of overall respondents said they have an Instagram account. However, 22% of Android phone owners said they use Instagram, and 40% of iPhone owners use Instagram.

Of those who do use Instagram, 50% said they like the new web profiles. 16% said they wish Instagram would stay strictly mobile. And 34% had no opinion either way.

Web Photos

But people don’t necessarily need to have Instagram accounts to view photos from others. 18% of overall respondents said that they often view Instagram photos online on other sites like Facebook or Twitter. 33% said they sometimes view these photos online. And 50% said they never look at Instagram photos online. Of those who do have Instagram accounts, 57% said they often look at others’ Instagram photos online, and 40% said they sometimes do.
