Apple’s iPad is still one of the most popular tablets on the market, but sales have slumped in recent months. A new model is expected to release this week, so that could help to jump-start sales in the short term. How many consumers already own iPads compared with how many plan to buy them in the future?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 35% of respondents said they currently own a tablet. 39% of those tablet owners have an iPad. 26% have Kindle Fire. 2% have a Microsoft Surface. 43% own various other Android tablets. And 8% own other types of tablets including the BlackBerry PlayBook.
Overall, 18% of respondents said they definitely plan to buy a new tablet within the next year. 26% said they probably would like to buy a new tablet this year. 36% said they don’t have any plans to buy a new tablet this year. And 21% said they definitely won’t buy a new tablet this year. Those who already own a tablet were 12% more likely to have plans to buy a new one this year.
Of those who may buy a new tablet this year, 43% said they are interested in the iPad. 32% are interested in Android tablets. 24% are specifically interested in a Kindle Fire. 14% are interested in Microsoft’s Surface. Just 3% are interested in other tablets. And 18% are completely undecided.
General brand perception can definitely have an impact on how many people buy certain items. 27% of respondents said they have a very positive opinion of Apple. Another 27% have a somewhat positive opinion. 30% were neutral or had no opinion. 12% have a somewhat negative opinion of Apple. And just 5% said they have a very negative opinion of Apple. Those who plan to buy a new tablet within the next year were 12% more likely to have a positive opinion of Apple.
