Apple just announced a new version of the iPhone that will be released shortly. The iPhone SE will come with the latest OS, camera and other high-tech features. But with just a 4-inch screen and a $399 price tag, it’s smaller and less expensive than the other latest iPhone models. So how many people might be interested in purchasing the new iPhone when it is released? And how big of a difference might these new features make?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 16% of overall respondents said that they would be likely to purchase the new iPhone SE within the next year. And 24% said that they would be likely to purchase it at some point in the future. 57% said they are unlikely to every buy one. And 19% were neutral or undecided at this point.
Overall, 27% of respondents said they feel that the iPhone SE represents a major upgrade over previous versions of the iPhone. 19% disagreed. And 54% were neutral.
But some of the phone’s features, especially the price, are things that are very important to potential buyers. In fact, 68% said that price is their number one consideration when making a new smartphone purchase. Just 5% said that a compact or small phone is the most important thing to them, but 22% ranked it as their second most important feature. Ease of use, a quality camera and mobile payment options were chosen as moderately important features. And availability of apps and brand name were chosen as the least important features.
Currently, 26% of respondents own an iPhone. 33% own another type of smartphone. And 41% don’t own a smartphone at all. Of those who currently own an iPhone, 38% said they will likely purchase the new iPhone within the next year, and 52% are likely to purchase it at some point in the future. And of those who own other smartphones, just 16% said they’d be likely to ever buy the new iPhone SE.
