iWatch Survey: Less Than Half Interested in Possible New Product

Rumors have been circulating about the possibility of Apple coming out with some kind of “smart watch,” or iWatch, that would be similar to a smartphone in function. Now, the company has reportedly filed for trademark protection for iWatch, which doesn’t necessarily mean that it will happen, but it’s a possibility. Are consumers interested in such an idea?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 23% of respondents said they always wear a watch. 22% said they sometimes wear one. 21% said they rarely do. And 34% said they never wear a watch.

More specifically, just 14% of respondents said they would definitely be interested in a “smart watch” that would perform many of the functions of a smartphone, but in a watch format. 27% said they are somewhat interested in such a product. 29% said the idea of a smart watch doesn’t really interest them. And 31% said they are not interested at all. Of those who wear a regular watch, 21% said they would definitely be interested in a smart watch, and 33% said they might be interested.

New Technology

People don’t necessarily have to have an actual use for a new technology product in order to buy it. Some consumers today are simply interested in any kind of new technology or gadget. 11% of respondents said that they are always interested in buying the latest gadgets and technology right away. 43% said that they are interested in new technology, but only the items that are most relevant to them. 33% said they are somewhat interested in new gadgets, but only once they’ve heard good things about them from others. And 14% said they aren’t really interested in new technology.

Apple Products

Apple is one of the main companies that gets a lot of buzz among tech fanatics whenever it releases a new product. In general, 26% said they have a very positive opinion of Apple products and technology. 37% said they have a somewhat positive opinion of Apple. 7% said they have a somewhat negative opinion. And just 5% said they have a very negative opinion of Apple. 25% said they have never owned Apple products and have no opinion. Of those who are always interested in the latest technology, 66% have a very positive opinion of Apple and 27% have a somewhat positive opinion of Apple.
