Apple’s first Mac computer was released 30 years ago this week. Since that very first introduction, which included an iconic commercial during the 1984 Super Bowl, Mac computers have evolved and grown. So how many consumers have owned Apple computers at some point over the past 30 years? And how have they stacked up against the competition?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 13% of respondents said that they currently own a Mac computer. Another 9% have owned Mac computers in the past. And 79% of respondents have never owned a Mac computer. Of those who have owned a Mac, 94% have also owned other types of computers. And just 6% said they have only ever owned Mac computers.
Overall, 66% of current and former Mac users said they are or were very satisfied with their computers. 26% said they have been somewhat satisfied. 6% have been somewhat unsatisfied. And 2% were very unsatisfied. Those who currently own Mac computers were 12% more likely to be very satisfied.
Of those who have used both Mac computers and other brands, 49% said they have been more satisfied with their Mac computer than with other computers. 28% said they have been more satisfied with other types of computers. And 24% said they didn’t have a strong preference either way.
In general, 34% said they have a very positive opinion of Apple as a brand. 35% have a somewhat positive opinion of Apple. 8% have a somewhat negative opinion of Apple. Just 3% said they have a very negative opinion of Apple. And 20% have no opinion about the company. Those who have owned Mac computers were 32% more likely to have a very positive opinion of Apple.
