Meal Delivery Survey: Hello Fresh, Blue Apron Named Most Popular Services

A new trend has emerged in the food industry in recent years. Several companies have popped up offering to deliver fresh ingredients and recipes to help customers prepare specific meals each week. So how many people have used these meal delivery services? Which ones are the most popular? And how many are open to trying out this concept in the future?

Meal Delivery Customers

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 5% of respondents said that they use a meal delivery service regularly. 9% said they’ve tried these types of services multiple times. And 6% have used one at least once. Males and respondents under 25 were more likely to have at least tried a meal delivery service.

Preferred Services

Hello Fresh appears to be the most popular meal delivery service at this point; 40% of meal delivery customers have used it. 27% said they’ve purchased meal ingredients from Blue Apron. 22% have used Plated. 9% have used Diced. And 30% have used other services such as Greenling.

In general, 71% of those who have used meal delivery services said they’ve been at least somewhat satisfied with their service. Customers of Blue Apron and Diced were most likely to be satisfied with their meal delivery experience.

Future Customers

Of the 81% of respondents who have never used a meal delivery service, just 17% said they would be at least somewhat likely to sign up for one in the future. But that could change if some of these services started offering more affordable options. 43% said that they would be likely to use meal delivery services if they could offer ingredients for prices comparable to grocery stores.
