Peanut Butter and Jelly Survey: Jif, Smucker's Named Favorite Brands

Today is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day, a holiday that recognizes a classic American sandwich. People have been enjoying peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for decades. But everyone’s idea of the perfect pb&j might be a bit different. What are people’s favorite types of peanut butter and jelly? And how often do they enjoy these classic sandwiches?

Eating Habits

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 4% of respondents said they eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches every day. 12% eat them a few times per week. 14% said they eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches about once a week. 17% eat them a few times per month. 12% eat them just about once per month. 27% said they rarely ever eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. And just 15% never eat them. Those who enjoy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches often have different ways of making them. In general, 55% of respondents said they like their sandwiches with equal parts peanut butter and jelly. 29% like more peanut butter than jelly on their sandwiches. And 16% would rather have more jelly than peanut butter.

62% of respondents said they prefer creamy peanut butter to crunchy peanut butter. 30% prefer crunchy peanut butter. And 11% enjoy extra crunchy peanut butter. On the jelly side, 43% said that grape jelly is their favorite. 42% prefer strawberry jelly. 19% like raspberry jelly. And 9% enjoy other flavors.In terms of brands, 41% of respondents selected Jif as their favorite brand of peanut butter. 35% prefer Skippy peanut butter. And 22% like Peter Pan brand. As far as jelly is concerned, 45% said that Smucker’s is their favorite brand. 42% prefer Welch’s jelly. 10% named Knott’s as their favorite brand of jelly. And 8% have other favorites like organic or store brands.

PB&J Opinions

Overall, 72% of respondents said they enjoy eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. And 61% think that they can be at least somewhat healthy. But pb&j’s don’t necessarily have to be healthy for people to enjoy them. If anything, many choose to eat them because they can be quick, easy and transportable. 84% of respondents agree that peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are convenient.
