Selfie Stick Survey: Most Have Taken Selfies, Don’t See Need for Selfie Stick

A few years ago, most people had never heard of the term, “selfie.” But now, selfies have become a huge part of popular culture, so much so that some companies are even selling selfie sticks, which are basically extendable poles that can attach to phones or cameras to better facilitate selfie-taking. So just how many people see the value in these selfie sticks? And how relevant might they become?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 30% of respondents said they often take photos with their cell phones. 29% sometimes take cell phone photos. 15% rarely take cell phone photos. 8% never do. And 17% said they don’t have a cell phone with a camera feature.

More specifically, just 12% of respondents said they often take selfies, either with their phone or a camera. 22% said they sometimes take selfies. 25% rarely ever take selfies. And 41% never take them.

Just 9% of overall respondents said they currently own a selfie stick. But of those who regularly take selfies, 20% said they own a selfie stick. In addition, 20% of respondents under 25, which seems to be the main market for this type of product, said they currently own a selfie stick.

Potential Buyers

In general, 55% of respondents who don’t already own one said they would be very unlikely to ever purchase their own selfie stick. And just 12% said they would be likely to purchase a selfie stick at some point in the future. Those who regularly take selfies were 17% more likely to be interested in buying one.
