This week, Discovery Channel is hosting its annual Shark Week. The week full of shark related programming has become somewhat of a cult favorite over the years, with so many different shows and specials dedicated to the many different kinds of sharks in the sea. So how many are enjoying Shark Week programming this year? And what are their favorite shows and programs?

Shark Week

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 11% said they have watched multiple Shark Week shows and specials this year. Another 16% said they’ve watched just one or two shows this week. And 73% haven’t watched any. Last year, 30% watched Shark Week, according to an August 2014 survey. However, there’s still time to make up the small difference.

Looking forward, 27% of respondents said they are likely to watch more Shark Week programming throughout the rest of the week. Most of those respondents have already watched at least one show so far this Shark Week.

Viewing Habits

The ways people enjoy Shark Week have also changed throughout the years. Discovery Channel now offers some online and mobile viewing options. And plenty of viewers even post about the shows they’ve watched on social media. However, traditional viewing methods are still the most prominent. 90% of Shark Week viewers said they’ve watched Shark Week on their TVs this year. 15% have watched online. And 6% have watched on their mobile devices. In addition, 19% of viewers said they’ve posted about Shark Week on social media.

Shark Favorites

With so many different kinds of sharks out there, Discovery Channel has a lot of different material to use for its shows and specials. But there are some that are more likely to get a lot of viewers. Respondents named great white sharks, hammerheads and tiger sharks as their favorites. And as far as current programming is concerned, respondents named Alien Shark and Megalodon as their favorite shows to watch during this year’s Shark Week.
