Shipping Survey: Shoppers More Concerned With Costs Than Fast Shipping

There’s been a lot of buzz about same-day shipping lately, but how much do consumers really care about receiving their online orders that quickly? Or are there other factors, such as shipping costs or cheap returns, that are more important to them?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 16% of respondents said that they shop online at least once per week. 22% said they shop online a few times per month. 18% said they shop online about once per month. 23% said they shop online every few months. 15% said they rarely shop online. And just 6% said they never shop online.

Same-Day Shipping

28% of respondents said that they would definitely be more likely to buy an item online if it would be shipped on the same day. Another 53% said that they would probably be more likely to buy items that are shipped the same day. 17% said they probably wouldn’t be more likely to buy such items. And just 2% said that same-day shipping wouldn’t impact their online shopping decisions at all.

However, only 8% of respondents said they would definitely pay slightly more for same-day shipping. 26% said they would probably pay more for same-day shipping. 48% said they probably wouldn’t pay more for same-day shipping. And 18% said they definitely wouldn’t.

Other Factors

In general, 49% of online shoppers said that shipping costs very much impact their buying decisions. 39% said that shipping costs somewhat factor into their online shopping decisions. 8% said that shipping costs don’t really impact their buying decisions. And just 3% said they don’t consider shipping costs into their online shopping decisions at all.

44% of respondents said they would definitely be more likely to buy an item online if it had a free return policy. Another 44% said they would probably be more likely to buy items with free return options. 10% said they probably wouldn’t be more likely to buy such items. And just 2% said that free-return policies don’t factor into their buying decisions at all.
