Smart Cameras Survey: Smartphones Not Deterring Digital Camera Buyers

Digital cameras have been popular with consumers for years. But only recently have these cameras begun to come with extra features including wi-fi connections and sharing capabilities. Since so many people already carry smartphones or other mobile devices with cameras, are they interested in these new “smart cameras?”

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 68% of respondents said they currently own a digital camera. But more respondents, 82%, said they own a phone or other type of mobile device that includes a camera. Those who own other mobile devices with cameras were actually 2% more likely to own a dedicated digital camera device as well.

Digital Use

Of those who own a digital camera, just 9% said that they use it every day. 21% said they use their cameras a few times per week. 9% said they use them about once a week. 18% use their cameras a few times per month. 14% use them about once per month. 27% said they rarely use their digital cameras. And just 1% said they never use them.

Smart Cameras

28% of current digital camera owners said their camera already has some “smart” features like wi-fi connectivity or sharing capabilities. Aside from those camera owners, 21% of respondents said they would definitely be interested in owning a smart camera. Another 36% said they would probably be interested. 30% said they would probably not be interested. And 13% said they would definitely not be interested in owning a smart camera.
