Social TV Survey: Most Social Media Users Have Posted About TV

Social media and similar forms of communication have changed the way many people watch TV. Giving people a way to interact with other viewers can transform the entire viewing experience. But how many TV viewers post about the shows they watch and interact with other viewers? And is social TV becoming more prominent with many viewers?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 74% of respondents said that they watch television daily. 9% said that they watch TV shows several times per week. 5% said they watch TV about once per week. 7% said they rarely watch TV. And 5% said they never watch TV.

18% of TV viewers said that they often notice hashtags or similar types of prompts on the screen when watching TV. 34% said they sometimes notice these kinds of prompts on the screen. 19% said they rarely notice them. And 30% said they never see these kinds of on-screen prompts when watching TV.

53% of overall respondents said that they use social media daily. 11% said that they use it several times per week. 8% said they use it about once per week. 14% said that they rarely use social media. And 15% said they never use social media.

Of those social media users, 9% said that they often post about the television shows they watch. 23% said they sometimes post about TV shows. 29% said they rarely post about television shows on social media. And 39% of social media users said that they never post about TV shows.

TV Genres

Of those who post about TV on social media, 48% said that they regularly post about comedy shows. 44% said they post about dramas on social media. 34% said they post about reality TV. 26% said they post about sci-fi or fantasy shows. 16% said they post about educational shows. And 28% said that they post about other types of TV shows.
