Spotify Video Survey: New Features Unlikely to Draw Many New Users | AYTM

Spotify added a few new features this week. The music streaming company added video and podcast content to its offerings. And it also added a feature that would select music based on the tempo of the user’s movements, aimed specifically at those who listen to Spotify while running. So how many are interested in these new features? And could it impact Spotify’s user base?


Spotify Users

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 21% of respondents said they currently have a Spotify account. Just 6% said they have had a Spotify account in the past but don’t anymore. And 73% have never used Spotify. But those subscriber numbers could go up a bit thanks to some new features. Upon learning that Spotify has now added video and podcast content, 12% of those who don’t currently subscribe said they would be likely to sign up.

New Features

Of those who do currently subscribe to Spotify, 45% said they would be likely to use Spotify to watch videos now that it has added that as an option. 42% said they would be likely to use the platform to listen to podcasts. And 46% said they regularly use Spotify to listen to music while running, so those subscribers could potentially benefit from the feature that chooses music based on running tempo.

Online Competitors

So it seems that the new features could be useful for some users, but are unlikely to draw in a lot of new subscribers. That’s likely due to the other platforms out there for things like video and podcast streaming. Currently, 37% of overall subscribers said they often watch videos online. And 36% do so sometimes. 9% said they often listen to podcasts. And another 18% said they sometimes listen to podcasts on other platforms.
