Star Wars Survey: Fans Have High Expectations for New Film

Last week, the internet was abuzz thanks to a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie. The much loved franchise still has an incredibly loyal fanbase even after what many consider to be a disappointing set of prequels. But with some members of the original cast returning for the latest installment, expectations seem to be higher for the next film. So how many plan to go see the new Star Wars movie when it is released in theaters? And what are their expectations for it?

Moviegoers

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 35% of respondents said they are likely to go see the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie when it is released in theaters later this year. 13% of respondents said they have seen both of the teaser trailers that have been released for the movie. And another 11% have seen just one of them. Those who have seen at least one of the trailers were 31% more likely to be interested in seeing the movie.

Movie Expectations

Of those who plan on going to see the new Star Wars movie, 79% said they have high expectations for it. Just 6% have low expectations for the newest Star Wars movie. And 14% are neutral at this point. Those who have seen at least one of the trailers were 2% more likely to have high expectations for the movie. Of course, those who don’t expect the movie to be good are also probably not as likely to be interested in seeing it at all.

Star Wars Fans

Overall, 32% of respondents said they have seen all of the past Star Wars movies. 30% have seen some of them. 11% have seen just one of the Star Wars movies. And 27% haven’t seen any of them. Not surprisingly, those who have seen at least some of the Star Wars films were 15% more likely to be interested in seeing the latest installment.

In general, 74% of viewers said they have a positive opinion of the original Star Wars films (episodes 4-6). But just 59% said they have a positive opinion of the later Star Wars films (episodes 1-3). People were also more likely to have a very positive opinion of the earlier Star Wars films, whereas many only have somewhat positive opinions of the later films. Either way, it seems that many are hoping for a better outcome with the latest installment.
